Katie and Zac's July Wedding at Funks Grove Church

On a hot Saturday in July, Katie and Zac were wed at Funks Grove Church in McLean. One thing I absolutely love about this couple is their laid-back style. I learned that and a lot more about the couple during our engagement photo session earlier in the year. You can read that story here: Katie and Zac's Engagement Session.

Katie and Zac's wedding day started much like many others for me. I arrived at the church and went to find the bride and groom. When I located Katie, she was wearing tie-dye and was being styled by her very own one-person glam squad, her friend Holly. Katie "handed" me a very unique peace sign ring holder for their ring photos (see below), and that's when I knew it was going to be a great day.

Due to the extreme heat, the couple opted to skip some of their planned outdoor photos in Bloomington and instead stayed closer to the church. We still found plenty of great locations for photos, including the most amazing setup for their first look photos. This place has so much character! Funks Grove Church is super cute and is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. I photographed a wedding at this church about 8 years ago, and I hadn’t been back for a wedding since. That was a winter wedding, so it was nice to see this setting with everything in bloom.

Shortly before the wedding, we learned that an out-of-town guest would be about a half-hour late due to construction traffic. Some couples would be panicked or annoyed by this news. Katie and Zac, however, took it perfectly in stride, and they postponed the start of the wedding to wait for their guest. I just loved that! It really sums up how laid back these two actually are!

The ceremony was sweet and perfect for this couple. They didn't have a bridal party, but Zac's son, Holden, was excited to participate in the ceremony! He did such a fantastic job! Katie's BFF, Amanda, and Zac's BFF, AJ, played special roles as well. Zac's mom designed and created the floral arrangements, and they were absolutely beautiful as you can see! After the wedding, their reception was held at Alexander's Steakhouse in Normal. It was intimate, fun, and very comfortable. The kids even got McDonald's! How exciting is that?! Katie and Zac were so happy to have everyone they care about in the same place at the same time! The newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon in Gettysburg.

I'm so glad that Katie and Zac found each other and are now starting their next chapter together! And I'm beyond grateful they invited me to tell the story of their special day!
