Some families have to wait years between celebrating the birth of new family members. Well, in my family, we had the opportunity to celebrate twice in the same month! I welcomed two new nieces in September...double the excitement and double the newborn photos! Lucky us and lucky you!
What do you do when you’re a photographer with a busy work schedule, and your sister who lives in another state just gave birth to your niece? You hop on a plane to capture your niece’s newborn session before she gets any bigger, of course! My sweet sister, Katie May (not to be confused with my sister-in-law, Katie Lynn), and her husband, my brother-in-law, Michael, proudly announce the birth of their daughter, Madelyn Grace! Madelyn’s big brother, Korbin, is also pretty excited!
With less than 24 hours to meet Madelyn and shoot her newborn session before I had to get back, I knew time was of the essence. I quickly grabbed a cab from the airport in Orlando. From the back of the cab I watched the sunny Florida afternoon turn dark and stormy by the time I arrived at their home in Deltona. That afternoon was when we had planned to shoot Madelyn’s photos…brother and dad would have been available to join us at that time, but the weather had other plans for us. Since I could only stay until the next day, the backup time to shoot was the next morning before heading back to the airport to catch my flight home. We literally had 10 minutes to shoot a few photos, and then I was on my way back home to take care of my own babies. I think we did pretty great capturing some beautiful images of Madelyn considering the time crunch we found ourselves in.
Not only did I get to photograph this beautiful little girl, I got to stay up with her for one night so mom and dad, and grandma (my mama), who got to Florida the day Madelyn was born and stayed for 3 weeks to help out, could finally get some much-needed rest. I loved every limited minute of it! Look for more pretty Madelyn photos in January when my family (kids and Dusty) goes with me to visit...for more than 24 hours. Welcome to the family, Madelyn!
