This Couple's Got Game

We live in a day and age where people meet in lots of different ways. Advancing technology allows us to meet people even if we're not in the same physical location at the same time. Melissa and Shane, for example, have online gaming to thank for their first interaction. That’s right…this soon-to-be bride and groom met June 8, 2018 while playing online video games! Let that sink in. How fun is that?! They both felt a connection, so central Illinoisan Melissa and Wisconsin native Shane decided to meet halfway between them at a Starbucks in Aurora, Illinois. It was their first official date! Following their first date, their relationship grew as Shane would visit Melissa in Peoria, and Melissa reciprocated by driving to suburban Milwaukee to spend more time with Shane. After racking up lots of miles on each of their vehicles, the two eventually decided it was time to take their relationship to the next level. Melissa moved to Wisconsin! The pair became engaged on August 1, 2020.

As the wedding planning commenced, Melissa’s mom, Dianna, contacted me. Dianna, a talented baker who lives in Washington (check out her amazing cookie creations in a few of these shots), got my name from a satisfied client. [Side note…this is exactly why word-of-mouth referrals matter. If you’ve worked with me and you love what we created together, please think of me when your family or friends have a photography need.] Okay, back to Melissa and Shane. ;-) Melissa’s mom and dad met with me for an initial consultation, and they booked me on the spot. Shortly thereafter, I spoke with Melissa over the phone to go over her wedding day photography vision.

Part of the fun of the engagement session that comes with booking a wedding photography package with me is that I get to know the couple a little better, and they get to know me a little better too. Being more comfortable with your wedding photographer makes for some stunning photos on the big day. In getting to know Melissa and Shane, it comes as no surprise that this couple enjoys spending time together, watching movies and…wait for it…playing video games. They look forward to a lifetime of gaming together side-by-side! Though their October 8, 2022 wedding celebration will be small, I’m excited to capture all the big moments, telling the story of their important day in a special way. I look forward to sharing their wedding with you this fall!
